Season Summary

Again, its that time of year again – blinked and you missed it!

Its been a solid season for the club, although we retained the Millennium trophy for the 2nd season running we failed to maintain our league form in each league. We can be pleased with finishing 6th in the South West Durham League, as it was our 1st season in the 1st Division. Our final game in the Durham and District League ruined what was almost a very successful run, we need 7 points to win the league and we lost 1-0 at home to Wolsingham. The Sherwood League saw us finish 3rd which was ok but after doing the league/cup double last season in was quite a drop back.

Despite all this our biggest success was gaining 5 new bowlers, not only were they an asset on the bowls green, they are probably showing more interest in the club on a social side that our old regulars. This can only help take the club forward – we have 3 social events planned over the winter and will be ordering club shirts in the close season.

Cummins A 0 South Park 4

We got off to a winning start at Eastbourne Complex with a solid win, our team lined up as:-

Barry Hopkins, Matt Raftree & Kath Beck who won 17-16
Dave Beck, Simon Brodie & Scott Morland who won 30-13
Sandra Hopkins, Stan Harston & Barry Hopkins Jnr who won 21-14

Few familiar faces on the Cummins team, with Eric Theakston, Tony Lansdell & Ray Wood the 3 longstanding members, we were delighted to see Tony return to bowls after having his lower leg amputated. He is a great character and has been a big loss to bowls over the last 4 years.

The game itself started a bit sluggish not helped by the typical wet bowling weather but after slow starts for Sandra and Barrys rinks they both came back with a bang. Sandras rink beat Ray Woods comfortably in the end and it took a winning bowl from Matt on Barrys rink to decide the tie against Eric Theakston

League Opener

Our season starts tonight with a tricky away tie at Eastbourne Complex where we face Cummins A, we go into the game with a full squad to pick from and are hopeful of a positive result. Matt Raftree is making his debut for the team and we welcome him to the side.

South Park 1 JUC 3

Another heavy defeat in the Sherwood League has left the team floundering into mid table. The only winning rink being the rink skipped by Barry Hopkins, it seems the unavailablity of his son this week was a big miss in competing against one of the leagues stronger teams.
